The Rostam qalyan is beautifully hand engraved from the finest walnut wood by our artist based in Karaj, with a glass base decorated in hand-applied gold gilt and enamel painting. As a walnut qalyan it offers the warmth and individuality that only carved wood can give: no two engravings leave the workshop exactly alike.

Rostam (Persian: رستم) is a legendary hero in Persian mythology, the son of Zāl and Rudaba, whose life and deeds were immortalised by the 10th-century Persian poet Ferdowsi in the Shahnameh, or Epic of Kings, which preserves pre-Islamic Persian folklore and history. The roots of the narrative date much earlier, to the seventh century. Carrying that Shahnameh art on its carved body, this qalyan makes a proud gift for anyone who loves the old stories.
