The Lion and Sun (Persian: شیر و خورشید, pronounced: shir o khorshid) is one of the main emblems of Iran (Persia) and formerly was an element in Iran’s national flag until the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The motif, which illustrates ancient and modern Iranian traditions, became a popular symbol in Iran in the 12th century. The lion and sun symbol is based largely on astronomical and astrological configurations: the ancient sign of the sun in the house of Leo, which itself is traced back to Babylonian astrology and Near Eastern traditions.

The calligraphy salt and pepper shakers are absolutely gorgeous. We had to remodel our kitchen and I wanted a taste of Iran in the look of the new small kitchen. So we chose accent tiles from your collection. It was so easy to put in the order online and they arrived very quickly to Chicago all in perfect condition. I also had a lovely phone conversation when i called to ask a questions about one of the tiles before we ordered. They are gorgeous and I will always have a little bit of Iran when I am cooking!
